spring thingys for fall

No DIY project this week. *tear* I made the nautical knotted headbands... but they kind of failed. I'm nowhere as smart as i think i am! But oh well. I DO promise a DIY Friday this week, and it will either be chiffon flowers, $3 cameo necklace, or a romper. I found this knit i want to make into a romper really really bad.

So, today's (yesterday's) Steal of the week: Goody's Spin Pin!

(I call them spring thingys because that is what they look like. They're kinda cool.)

Pros: ~$6, WORKS.

Cons: Not great if you have thin/short hair.

I bought them in blonde, which is stupid since i don't really plan on being blonde for more than a year hah! But anyways, you don't even need a ponytail holder. You twist your hair, twist it more into a bun shaped thing, and then screw them in. Literally. You twist them down into the bun. One from the top, one from the bottom, and you're done. It's so easy.

I know I'm not the best at explaining things, so here's a video. I'm not going to make a video showing you because they work in my hair, but since Suzy (hairstylist) thinned me out, you can see the pins protruding.

P.S., I have like $40 of spending money now. I'm hitting the vintage store next weekend. Yum, 30's goodness.

Today's treat for your ears: Valery Gore.

For fans of: Regina Spektor, Au Revoir Simone, etc.

She's fairly obscure, but her song "Shoes of Glass" has been in my top ten for more than 2 years. The rest of her album, Avalanche to Wandering Bear is just as delightful. She incorporates piano, trumpet, drums, and amazing vocals in just one song. She's a little more upbeat in most of her songs than Regina Spektor's sometimes macabre and dark lyrics.It's far from a harsh sound, and I strongly recommend her.

Mascara Mayhem

I have 23 tubes of mascara.

I needed to find ONE that i LOVE.

I just did.

Today's Steal of the week: Covergirl's Lash Blast Fusion Mascara

It's not a new product, but I had not used it yet before today. I had to pick between this and Maybelleine's Falsies (soooo tempting) but I ended up getting the Lash Blast because I hate bristle mascara brushes. They're so clumpy.

Pros: Lengthens & Volumizes A LOT, lovely rubber bristles, has a lot in it - as in not half full of air.

Cons: ~$8. The Falsies was only $5. Sigh.

So, without further ado, here's what we're going to do:

Let's pretend it's Friday.

Just a tad late, but here it is:

The Comme des Garcons Heart tee!

So, I'm probably going to put elastic in the top, as it continued to fall off my skinny shoulder blades, but oh well. Here's the tut!

Ingredients:

-Plain Tee shirt whatever colour you want

-Red fabric paint

-Black fabric paint

-Scissors (optional)

-Sewing machine (optional)

-Printer Access & an X-Acto knife

1) Mark a line where you want the neckline to be with marker. Cut it off!

2) Fold, pin, and sew the neckline you cut.

If you want, you could use a contrasting thread to sew it. But, if you kind of lack actual sewing skills, like me, it may take a few tries. See? Black thread on white tee. Daring.

3) Print your design twice. Print it so that the heart takes up most of the page. If you need the Comme Des Garcons design, here, steal mine!

4) Cut the heart out of one of the papers with your X-Acto knife.

Put the paper sans heart on the shirt where you want the design.

Make sure you have

5) Use the X-Acto knife to cut the eyes out of the heart. Then, using double sided tape, stick them where they need to be.

6) Mix your red fabric paint with some water to dilute it - and add even more water for a water-colour effect. Dab it directlty on top of the 'stencil', and wait maybe 5 minutes.

Won't be perfect, but who cares?

After waiting a while, peel off the paper. If you're lazy like me, use a hairdryer on it to speed up the process.

7) Mix & dilute your black paint. Cut out the black parts of the eyes from the second print, and place on shirt after drying. Then dab in the eyes. Here's a pic with one done:

Then you're pretty much done! I'm going to convert to a tube top because i bought an XL. Or maybe a romper.

It's time for another: Steal of the week! A lovely title i, ahem, borrowed from the fabulous Carly at Chic Steals.

Today's product: Remington's Patterned Hair Dryers!

Cute in a wonderfully tacky way, no?

Pros: Lightweight, only $20, adorable and comes in many different patterns, has a nice amount of settings.

Cons: Like last week, I don't have any!

My new favorite hairdryer. It's as simple as that. I'm also not into animal prints, but they are supposedly in this fall too! We'll see.

I've had a hectic school week. The first week of my new school was.... interesting. I really like it though, i just have NO time during the week.

Therefore, i will re-stock at Michael's and Jo-Ann's tomorrow, get a few things, and make the Comme des Garcons, and try to do this Japanese brand justice. I will also be making the shirts even cuter though.

What the title says.

And, this is also yesterdays steal of the week! Stupid me forgot to put one up. I have a few nice products for you today:

1) The St. Ives Green Tea Scrub

Pros: Clears skin while being gentle, exfoliates, reduces redness, only $3-$4 at your local drugstore.

Cons: If you don't thoroughly rinse after using, the product will become white and pasty on your skin!

So I kind of love this stuff. A lot. It's wonderful! Smells good too. Green Tea is famous for reducing redness, and this scrub encompasses that AND exfoliating power. Worth all 400 pennies.

2) Urban Outfitters' Nailpolish in Orange 6 and Purple 7

Pros: Thick - only need 1-2 coats, pretty pastels, $5 each, nice bottles with designs on the sides.

Cons: I don't have any!

A lovely way to get your fall colours in a little more of a girly fashion. I ADORE these very very much.

I must also admit that when I went to Urban Outfitters... I splurged. Very badly. I've often thought of taking the Wardrobe Refashion Pledge but I love to shop far too much. But, in my defense, i bought some seriously cute things. Expect outfit posts later.

Lastly, I know I have yet to make the headbands. I keep completely forgetting, and they have been put on the backburner. The next DIY project will be a designer knockoff!

J'adore Comme des Garcons! They make some seriously cute things. I will take their famous heart tees and make the design even better, all for under $5.

bad blogger, bad.

I am an awful blogger. Seriously. I haven't posted in a while, I feel so awful. It's been less than a week since my last post but.. I still feel guilty! I had orientation for my new school this week, so I had to wake up a 6:00 a.m. Not my style. I'm tired, and soon, I'll hardly have any time for crafting/sewing! Oh well, i do plan on re-buttoning a cardigan, and post a picture of my newest creation: an extremely high waisted purple plaid skirt. I also have some organizational things in the making.
